Curriculum Values: 5 Gems

Our nursery culture is rooted in the principles of emotional regulation, kindness, community, independence and gratitude, which form the foundation of our 5 Gems Values.
We believe that positive behaviour emerges from a strong sense of self-worth, empathy and mutual respect, and we work to instil these qualities in every aspect of our daily interactions.
How They Were Created

At Hillside Gems, our 5 Gems Values work together to help children grow into confident, kind and responsible individuals. Each value is thoughtfully paired, because one strengthens the other.

Emotional Regulation & Positivity – Children learn to understand and manage their emotions while developing a positive outlook, helping them navigate challenges with confidence.

Independence & Collaboration – Children build independence through choice and problem-solving, while also learning to listen, share and work as part of a team.

Gratitude & Generosity – By appreciating what they have and giving to others, children develop a strong sense of kindness and empathy.

Kindness & Supportiveness – Kindness is deepened when children learn to notice others’ needs and offer support.

Community & Responsibility – Children feel a sense of belonging while learning to care for their environment and those around them.

We believe that by embedding these values into our daily routines and interactions, we help children develop the emotional and social skills they need to flourish both within our nursery and in the wider world.
